TOKYO -- Japanese makers of surgical masks say that despite boosting production, they can't keep up with demand amid the spread of the A/H1N1 flu virus.
 Other countries, including the U.S., which has registered more than 5,700 cases of the flu, haven't reported similar shortages.
 Japan had confirmed 289 cases of A/H1N1 flu as of Friday, according to the health ministry.
 Of that total, 285 were in western Japan, where the country's first domestic infection was confirmed just a week ago. Tokyo found its first case of the flu Wednesday and now has three confirmed cases. "We are receiving inquiries from municipal governments all over Japan, informing us of a mask shortage," said Ryosuke Ikemi, managing director at the Japan Hygiene Products Industry Association, a trade group.
 Certain models of the respirators are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for use during public-health emergencies. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says evidence that they control the spread of flu among people is "extremely limited."

    ROPE SPOOLING SYSTEM
    system keeps the spooled rope in a uniformed pattern, evenly distributing the load between the individual layers of rope. This prevents lower layers being crushed or pinched by upper layers.     SPOOLING SYSTEM GEOMETRY
